Weekend moves headquarters to historic San Francisco landmark

This month, we welcomed Weekend’s 80 employees to our newest San Francisco office in the historic Phelan Building near Union Square.

Constructed in 1908, the Phelan Building embodies historic San Francisco with its timeless architectural charm and Flatiron aesthetic. Today, it stands as a bridge between past and future, housing fast-growing and innovative tech startups like Figma, Flexport, and now Weekend.

At Weekend, we embrace this blend of tradition and innovation. We’ve taken classic game shows like Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune and reimagined them with bleeding-edge AI technology. We’re going to feel right at home in our new space.

How The New Office Fuels Our Innovation and Culture

Our new 25,000 sq. ft. office will be an ideal place to build games and “Play Together” (a core Weekend value). It has a range of communal spaces, private nooks, and play testing rooms. Our new breakroom will be equipped for teammates to play board games and video games, including clear company favorite, Super Smash Bros. Our conference rooms will be equipped with smart devices to playtest Weekend on Roku, Fire TV, Alexa, and more.

Our games are designed to be played with others in-person, and that’s how we prefer to work as well. We value in-person communication and collaboration. That’s why we’re committed to being in the office three days each week and hiring in the Bay Area.

As we continue to build first-in-market capabilities with our AI games, we face unique technical and design challenges that are best tackled through in-person brainstorming and iteration. We also appreciate the opportunity to host lively Friday happy hours and plan team outings in San Francisco.

Being headquartered in SF has been critical to our success. This city is the ideal place to build an AI company, with unmatched talent density and a thriving startup ecosystem.

Over the last two years, LLMs have transformed our business and we've been fortunate to work closely with leading foundation model labs who are located close by. We’ve hired exceptional talent with deep expertise in AI and ML. We've witnessed—and benefited from—the next generation of tech talent flocking to San Francisco, as the city reclaims its position as the center of gravity for the industry.

Our previous office was located in Hayes Valley—right in the heart of the AI boom. We co-hosted the first Cerebral Valley AI Summit there in March 2023. It was a fantastic location but we needed to move to a bigger space to accommodate our rapidly growing team. Fortunately, we found a great new home in the Phelan Building in a reinvigorated part of downtown. This marks our 4th office headquarters within San Francisco as we’ve rapidly expanded our team since our founding in 2016.

We’re the only consumer gaming startup to raise a Series C round in the last year and we’re on the path to becoming a generational entertainment business built on voice and AI technologies. We’re actively hiring and we’re ready to fill our new office in the Phelan Building with passionate individuals who want to join us in creating joy-filled games and groundbreaking AI features.
